Ray Wilkins insists Chelsea are significantly weaker than last season

Chelsea favourite Ray Wilkins insists that the Blues have significantly weakened their squad following their transfer business in the summer.

The Premier League holders lost 1-0 to Manchester City in their recent outing, and this leaves them six points behind Pep Guardiola's side, heading into the international break.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Wilkins believes the Blues failed to adequately strengthen their options having let the likes of John Terry, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa leave the club. Terry ended his 21-year association with the Blues to join Aston Villa while Matic and Costa followed suit with permanent moves to Manchester United and Atletico Madrid respectively.

Alvaro Morata admits that he is still adapting to Premier League football

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has admitted that he is still adapting to the Premier League despite making a strong start to his Blues' career.

The Spain international could not convert a crucial penalty in the Community Shield loss to Arsenal, but he has since turned it around with two goals in three league outings.

The 24-year-old has had the odd blunder with an open header missed at Tottenham Hotspur, but overall, the former Real Madrid star appears to have found his feet in the English top flight. Speaking to the club's official website, Morata was pleased to have provided a goal and assist in the 2-0 triumph over Everton, and he is 'very happy' to ply his trade for the Blues.

AC Milan chairman made contact with Diego Costa's representative

AC Milan chairman Marco Fassone has confirmed that he has held discussions with the representative of Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

The Rossoneri chief met up with super-agent Jorge Mendes earlier this week but confirmed that it had nothing to do with the future of the Spain international.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I would prefer to avoid talking about players from other teams; Diego Costa is a great player, but a Chelsea player. We went to see Jorge Mendes; there is a lot you can talk to him about. Costa is a great player but he is of Chelsea. That's all."

The Gunners showed what the forthcoming season might hold as they defeated the Blues to lift the Community Shield. The FA Cup champions defeated the league title holders in a penalty shootout 4-1 after the 1-1 score line at Wembley Stadium.

Antonio Conte was without stars John Terry, Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic while Arsene Wenger played striker Alexandre Lacazette. Sead Kolasinac was not in the starting line-up but he came on in the first half when Gary Cahill elbow pushed Per Mertesacker out of action. The former Lyon man had the best chance of the half when he hit the framework.

Chelsea star lavishes praise on Arsenal's club record signing

Chelsea defender David Luiz believes cross-city rivals Arsenal have completed one of the signings of the summer in the form of Alexandre Lacazette.

The France international joined the Gunners from Lyon earlier this month after they finalised a £52.3m deal with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Luiz spent two seasons away at Paris Saint-Germain between 2014 and 2016 where he came face-to-face with Lacazette, and the centre-back admits that it was always tough handling the 25-year-old striker.
