Thibaut Courtois’ Agent in Regular Contact with Real Madrid

The agent of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has confirmed that he is updating his clients’ status with Champions League holders Real Madrid.

The Belgium international made a couple of key saves during the course of last season as the Blues clinched their fifth Premier League title. Courtois is currently contracted to the west London club until the summer of 2019, and he is said to have stalled on a proposed extension as he looks to earn a significant rise on his current wages.

Courtois, 24, earns about £100,000 a week, and he is said to want at least double the amount in order to stay put at Stamford Bridge. Amid all this, agent Christophe Henrotay has heightened speculation over the shot-stopper’s position after he admitted that Real Madrid hold an interest in the Premier League winner, he told Telefoot: "Of course Thibaut is of interest to the big clubs, including the latest Champions League winner. He's someone who helps you win games, titles. I meet regularly with those in charge at Real Madrid, and Thibaut's case has come up. My role is to keep him updated on the situation."

The Belgian footballer featured for Atletico Madrid on a three-year loan spell between 2011 and 2014, and his family have since settled in the Spanish capital thus leading to claims that he would prefer a return to Spain. As things stand, Real Madrid have not lodged any formal approach for the 24-year-old with manager Zinedine Zidane content with the showing of Keylor Navas. Nevertheless, the Blues will be slightly concerned by the player’s contract standoff as they could potentially lose him for sizeable sum in the coming years. Courtois has won two Premier League titles since his debut three years ago, and he will set his sights on progressing further in the Champions League next term.
