Cesar Azpilicueta insists Tammy Abraham is more than just goals

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has said that Tammy Abraham provides more than just goals for the west London giants. The England international has had a tremendous breakthrough season under the guidance of Frank Lampard, and he has already notched 12 goals and four assists across all competitions.

Abraham came up with a goal and an assist during the recent 2-1 triumph over Aston Villa and following that game, Azpilicueta praised the all-round ability of the marksman which includes his recovery tackles and distribution to his teammates, he told: “Not only is he scoring goals he is playing for the team, recovering the ball; he made a tackle in our own half that was an amazing effort for him. He made an assist as well. I am not just looking into his goals as a number because he is doing more than that. No, he doesn't talk about that. If he scores the most goals then the team will do better as well.”

Abraham missed the recent London derby against West Ham United at home and the game went into the favour of the Hammers, who won by a 1-0 score. Olivier Giroud was tasked to lead the attack with Abraham out with a hip problem but the Frenchman barely provided a threat on the Hammers goal.

Hence, it is quite clear that the Blues perform better with Abraham leading the line and Lampard will hope that the striker can remain fit over the course of the season. The Blues are scheduled to face Everton on the road on Saturday and the match should present them with the chance to build another winning streak.

The Toffees have been in shambles during the opening 15 games of the campaign and they are currently stranded in the 18th spot with just 14 points on the board. The Merseyside outfit have recently sacked manager Marco Silva from the helm and it remains to be seen whether there is a positive response from the players after the Portuguese’s dismissal.
